Son of Man
Son of Man
2015
Painted as part of the Stations of the Cross at Titahi Bay Community Church annual exhibition at Easter, this work looked at the crucifixion of Christ.
“The weight of sin on his shoulders
SIN OF MAN
Overwhelmed, suffering, despair, anguish, pain, cry for help, depressed, rejected,
alone, fear, hurt, vulnerable, betrayed, crushed, forgotten, abandoned
Darkness, consume, scared, exhausted, anger, nowhere left to turn to
Intense emotional inside His soul
The burden of fate today
Ignored, isolated, solitude, sour, unsure, shadow of death
Hopelessness, Grim
Take this cup of suffering away from me
But not my will but your will be done. Humble
SELFLESS, grace, mercy, forgiveness, peace,
Solace, determined, LOVE, Saviour of the world
SON OF MAN”

2014
Through the journey of battling depression, I turned to art to try to express the feelings I had been dealing with. Black has always been a deep and meaningful colour, but this was taken to a whole new level in this painting. The work ended up being more therapeutic rather than anything presentable in a gallery.

You Reflect the Light
You Reflect the Light
2005
Painted using black paint with stencilled letters, the difference in thickness creating the text and finished with multiple coats of gloss polyurethane, this work creates a reflective black surface that the viewer can see themselves in.
“YOU reflect the light that shines upon you”
Grace; No More of This
Grace; No More of This
2008
Continuing with the use of stencils, text and spraypaints, I explored the idea of grace and mercy. The reds and blacks are strong colours paired with white crosses.
“Grace
Grace
Grace
No more of this
They know
They know not what they do
Grace”

In a return to focus on art from New Zealand, in particular, Ralph Hotere, I began playing around with enamel and oil paints, creating layers and scratching away details to create the artwork.
